FAQ:
1.Why did you decide to start writing?
I've always loved the escape of creative writing. I'm a type A personality, so I've always kept myself super busy. Now that I have a bit of free time, I've decided to dedicate that time to doing the things that I love.
2. Do you have any projects in development?
I’m always writing my ‘Best Ever!’
As far as official projects, I’m excited to announce my psychological suspense, Beckon the Ravens has officially released with Beacon. I’m working on a few other projects as well.
3. How did you find the resources as a new author?
Other authors. Once I signed with Limitless Publishing, I reached out to several of their authors. All of them were more than willing to offer guidance. I've made quite a few friends throughout the process.
4. What tips do you have for aspiring authors?
Be persistent. If you're serious about being an author, know that it isn’t something that happens overnight--at least it didn’t for me. I self-published Keeping the Tarnished in December of 2013. I didn’t actually start working with a publisher until 2015.
Research your publisher. It's always exciting to get an offer, especially when there's been nothing but standardized rejection letters prior to it. Just because they can 'publish' you, does not mean they are someone you want to partner with on your project. Don't allow your hard work to be associated with a poor representation of the industry. A good place to start your research is Google.
If and when you get your work out there for people to read, THANK THEM for reading it. Without demand there can be no supply. Keep in touch with your readers and let them know how much you appreciate them.
Have fun. Write what you're passionate about. The market is subjective and there's room for all of us. I promise if you write what you love it will come naturally. If you force yourself to write what you think will sell, the reader may pick up on it. And be proud of what your write! Who cares if you get a bad review? That is one person's opinion. They may not like your genre or writing style but I assure you there are readers out there that will.
5. What do you do when you're not writing?
I love my family (duh), running, and I currently work for an Organ Procurement Organization (OPO) center as the Manager of Organ Recovery. Going to work everyday knowing you'll be playing a part in saving someone's life is the most rewarding feeling.
