When I first began the process of writing a book, I had absolutely no clue what I was doing. I was seriously under the impression that a decent book would simply sell itself, and that publishers would be tripping over each other and fighting for my "unique" storyline. It was humbling to say the least. After being rejected by several literary agents, I reached out to fellow Oklahoman and author, Jamie McGuire. Jamie is a NYT best seller. She is the author of one of my favorite books (Red Hill, you have to read this if you like zombie lit), as well as several others. Jamie was in the process of promoting her latest effort, but she was gracious enough to take the time to offer guidance. Not only did she provide prompt feedback, she also directed me to her own site, which has an entire page dedicated to assisting emerging authors. If you are new to the game, and want a step by step playbook on the process, I highly recommend you visit her site, www.JamieMcguire.com. I now have book signings scheduled, and my book sales are actually decent. The entire process has been fun, and I wouldn't trade my own experience for anything. I'm grateful this new community is so open to newcomers, and so readily offers up advice.
