Stop The Presses

Being relatively new to the process of publishing, I can honestly say the entire process is overwhelming and even depressing.  The dream of getting a
deal with one of the 'big 6' seems nearly impossible.
That said, one piece of the equation that irritates me the most is the
reality that obtaining the services of a literary agent is basically the only
way to get any attention from a major publishing house.
I find this ridiculous.
Literary agents are swamped in query letters from excited authors.  They even admit that decisions are subjective, and that they are bombarded.
How is this an effective system?  Blogger, Joe Konrath, gave an extremely
interesting and even motivational outlook on the topic.
He predicts that the new age of eBooks will eventually be the death of
major publishing houses, and that they will be basically starving and fighting
for authors before their demise.
He also predicts the same fate will be met by literary agents.  Although I would never wish any hardworking individual out of a job, I had a smile on my face while reading his words. Check it out ↓
